Designer of Dog Clothes Announces New Range for Harrods of London

Coolangatta, QLD Australia December 15, 2005 – Margo Plowright, an Australian Designer of dog clothes, is rapidly developing an international reputation,  announcing  Harrods of London as a new client. Harrods is one of London's most prestigious shopping venues – a glittering tribute to all things opulent and stylish. Owned by Mohammed Al Fayed, each floor scales the heights of designer fashions and accessories, luxury furniture, cosmetics, fine jewellery and classic toys.

This announcement is just one among many recent success stories stemming from international interest in her unique designs.  At a time where manufacturing has shifted from the industrialised west to China, Plowright has broken the mould by having most of her exclusive range manufactured by hand on the Gold Coast of Australia.

"Is it cheap? No. But the only way I can achieve the quality and control I require to produce these garments, is to be standing in the middle of the production process.  I have recently returned from China and we are looking towards manufacturing a discounted range of dog clothes and beds.  However, these will be strongly differentiated from our exclusive Bellatutu product range."

The fledgling company, whose only visible presence is an Internet site, www.downtowndoggy.com, is rapidly developing into a thriving export business.  The business which started just twelve months ago, now employs eight staff and cannot make products fast enough to meet the demand that now streams from the website.

The company manufactures a range of hand made, detailed products exclusively for dogs.  These include dog jackets, beds, jumpers and shirts. The range of beds includes high quality chaise lounges and the Bellatutu, which was the first design to capture the attention of the US and UK market.  The clothing is all hand made featuring detailed embroidery, hand dyes, screens, appliqués and vintage buttons.  The latest ranges of jackets are limited edition with no two being the same.

 ‘Unique, luv it, inspiring’ are just some of the terms frequently used by buyers to describe Plowright’s designs.  These original creations have attracted distributors seeking to represent the range in the US, Canada, UK, Germany and other EU countries. 

Downtowndoggy is located in Terranora, close to Tweed City in the Northern Rivers district of NSW.
